Seven people displaced after Juniata house fire
Metro
An attic fire in Juniata Friday morning displaced seven people, but caused no injuries.
Crews from a nearby fire station were on scene at 303 N. Fifth Ave. within a minute of the 8 a.m. alarm, and, after coming up through the house with a hose, had the fire under control in about five minutes, said city Fire Chief Adam Free.
Fire damage was confined to the attic, but there was water damage throughout the house, which, along with electric and gas shutoffs, means the house is now uninhabitable, Free said.
The Red Cross was called to help the residents with temporary housing, if needed, Free said.
He estimated $25,000 damage, although whether the house is rehabilitated will depend on the insurance carried by the owner-occupants, Free said.
Residents got out without there being a close call, according to Free.
A state police fire marshal is investigating, Free said.
The 13 firefighters on duty at the city’s four stations were on scene.
A couple of others were summoned to be ready for other potential calls.
The crews at the fire scene were back in service after about an hour.
