Bedford County man charged with child endangerment in hit-and-run DUI
Davenport faces felony child endangerment count in incident
A Manns Choice resident was charged with DUI after an alleged hit-and-run incident that endangered two passengers.
Andrew Michael Davenport, 46, is facing a felony charge of child endangerment, misdemeanor charges of reckless endangerment and DUI driving and nine summary traffic offenses, according to court documents.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, state police were dispatched to West Saint Clair Township about 3 p.m. Jan. 16 after receiving reports of a hit-and-run.
Upon arriving at the intersection of Quaker Valley Road and Dunnings Creek Road, a witness told a trooper that they witnessed a gray pickup truck crash into a guardrail at the intersection. A child then exited the vehicle and ran toward the witness.
The boy told the witness that his parents were drunk, according to the affidavit.
The truck then pulled into the Long’s Outpost parking lot, where a woman got the child back in the truck and the driver immediately fled the scene, the report states.
Police tracked the vehicle to Davenport’s home in Manns Choice, where the truck was discovered behind a barn on the property.
The truck had damage to the front end, police reported.
According to the affidavit, Davenport told police that the damage was from an impact with a deer, that he was not involved in a crash and that he did not drink alcohol that day.
Davenport is alleged to have also told the trooper that he had consumed alcohol earlier that day, and that his breath smelled strongly of alcohol.
The female passenger told police that Davenport had crashed the truck due to a sneeze while attempting to turn.
Davenport was transported to UPMC Bedford later that day, where he consented to a blood test for alcohol.
Davenport was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Brian K. Baker on Jan. 16, where he was remanded to Bedford County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.
According to court documents, Davenport was released on Jan. 19 following a bail payment.
He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Tonya M. Osman on Jan. 28, according to court documents.
