Multiple fire trucks lined Kettle Road Thursday afternoon to put out a house fire along Herron Lane, ignited by an outdoor furnace.

According to the Sinking Valley Fire Chief Ron Wise, the outdoor boiler produced sparks that caught onto the building. High winds then picked up the sparks and spread them onto the garage connected to the residence.

Melted vinyl siding was the only sign of damage to the home, but the outdoor furnace was declared a “total loss,” Wise said.

Sinking Valley Fire Department dispatched about 2:30 p.m., joining Lakemont, Excelsior, Greenwood, Pinecroft and Allegheny fire companies.
