Man faces child sex abuse, porn charges

Bem, 18, accused of having sexual relations with 17 year old

From Mirror staff reports

A Hollidaysburg man is charged with child sexual abuse and other related offenses after allegedly having sexual intercourse on numerous occasions with a 17 year old.

Kyler Felix Bem, 18, was arraigned Wednesday before Magisterial District Judge Paula M. Aigner on two felony counts each of unlawful contact with a minor, child pornography and photographing, videotaping, depicting on computer or filming sexual acts of a minor.

Bem is free on $100,000 bail, unsecured.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, the investigation began on Jan. 17 when Hollidaysburg police were contacted by the 17-year-old victim’s mother, claiming the victim never entered Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School after being dropped off early that morning.

Police contacted district officials, who confirmed the victim was spotted on cameras being dropped off at the high school, but walked in the direction of C.W. Longer Elementary School instead. A district administrator advised police that the victim and Bem were allegedly in a relationship and that Bem had not been at school since the previous Friday.

Officers tried to contact Bem at his residence multiple times, but received no response. Investigators reportedly made contact with a male at Bem’s mother’s last known address, who said he had not seen Bem that day. The victim’s mother then filled out a missing persons report, which was sent to the school district, the Department of Health and posted on the police department’s Facebook page, according to court documents.

Blair 911 notified investigators that someone called in, saying the victim might be at Bem’s residence. Two callers also contacted Hollidaysburg police, saying they saw the victim allegedly walking in the direction of Bem’s residence shortly after her mother reported dropping her off at the high school.

The victim’s mother told police she found a black cellphone in the victim’s room that did not belong to her, but had the same passcode as the victim’s phone. She also reported receiving a message that said “hello, this is (the victim), I am okay and I am at a friend’s house, I heard you’re looking for me.” The victim’s mother responded to the message “(the victim) has her phone so she would call me from that” but received no reply.

Officers obtained a search warrant for Bem’s residence on Jan. 18, which resulted in their successfully locating the victim. When the victim’s mother arrived on scene, she told officers she went through the black cellphone and found a “plethora” of sexually explicit images. Officers then seized Bem’s and the victim’s phones before following the victim’s mother back to their residence to obtain the black cellphone, court documents state.

On the victim’s cellphone, officers found Snapchat conversations between her and Bem that contained map screenshots of directions toward Bem’s residence. Bem’s cellphone revealed a screenshot of the victim’s missing persons report posted to Hollidaysburg’s police Facebook page, TikTok searches for “tips for running away as a kid” and about 325 sexually explicit images and videos of the victim. Officers also located about 15 explicit images and videos of a second 17-year-old victim, the police report states.

Bem is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in front of Aigner on Feb. 25.
