One person was killed in a house fire early Monday morning in Williamsburg.
According to the Blair County Coroner’s Office, Tyler Gearhart, 38, Williamsburg, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Gearhart was found in a second story bedroom by firefighters, said Williamsburg Volunteer Fire Department Chief Travis Prough.
Prough said firefighters were dispatched about 3 a.m. to 730 W. Third St. and were met with heavy fire at the front of the wood structure, with flames extending halfway into the second story.
During a sweep of the home, firefighters found Gearhart. No other occupants or pets were in the residence, Prough said.
Firefighters were on scene for about three hours, leaving the scene about 6 a.m., he reported.
The home is deemed a total loss, with “at least $150,000 in damages,” he said, noting that the house next door also sustained fire damage.
While the fire is under investigation and a cause has yet to be determined, Prough suspects the fire was electrical in nature.
The investigation continues with an autopsy scheduled at Mt. Nittany Hospital, he said.
Williamsburg received assistance from a number of area fire companies, including Hollidaysburg, Duncansville, Geeseytown, Huntingdon County, Alexandria, Bellwood and Martinsburg, along with the Hollidaysburg American Legion Ambulance Service.
