Police: Man stole $5,000 from work

CLEARFIELD — A Philipsburg man is facing a felony theft charge for allegedly taking $5,000 from his employer.

Police say Aaron Michael Shaw, 32, was working at a store along Front Street in Decatur Township on June 29 when he emptied the cash register and left.

According to the affidavit, the owner called police and was able to provide surveillance video footage which showed Shaw putting the money in a blue change bag and then placing that bag in a store bag.

Additional footage showed him exiting through the back door and not returning.

The owner estimated the total taken was nearly $5,178.

During centralized court in Clearfield County on Wednesday, Shaw waived his right to a preliminary hearing, sending the case on to the court of common pleas.

His bail was reduced from $15,000, monetary, to $15,000, unsecured, and he was released, according to online court documents.
