City man facing assault charge

Haynes allegedly strangled man during altercation

A city man faces charges after he allegedly strangled a man, court documents stated.

Charles Scott Haynes, 29, was arraigned Wednesday by Magisterial District Judge Paula M. Aigner on charges of strangulation, simple assault and harassment.

Haynes is accused of strangling a man during an altercation Wednesday on the 200 block of Cherry Street.

The police report alleges Haynes grabbed the man by the throat and bit his thumb, then struck him twice in the head with a closed fist.

Haynes allegedly fled the scene after a friend threatened to call 911, the criminal complaint stated.

The victim was transported to UPMC Altoona for treatment of injuries suffered in the altercation and had temporarily lost consciousness, the report stated.

Haynes was remanded to Blair County Prison after being unable to post 10% of $15,000 bail.

He is to appear before Magisterial District Judge Daniel C. DeAntonio on Oct. 6 for a preliminary hearing.
