Police: Pittsburgh man stole car after leaving Blair County rehab

A Pittsburgh man is accused of stealing a car after walking away from a Blair County rehab facility.

Jordan A. Cervone, 20, then drove the stolen car to Pittsburgh where he slept in it a few days before checking himself into another rehab facility, according to charges filed by Williamsburg police.

It started Nov. 18 when an employee of Martin General Store, located at 300 E. First St., came out of work about 10:30 p.m. and discovered his vehicle was gone.

The car, which belonged to the employee’s mother, was a 1994 silver Honda Civic parked in the back lot of the store with the keys left in the console, police noted.

Williamsburg police started looking into the theft and learned that Cervone had walked away from Cove Forge Behavioral Center, just outside of Williamsburg, and after tracking down his Pittsburgh-area address, they contacted the Avalon Police Department.

Avalon police relayed to police in Blair County that one of their officers got a phone message from Cervone’s grandfather on Nov. 19 to inquire whether a car Cervone had shown up in – a silver-colored Honda Civic – was stolen or not.

When police checked the license plate of the car that was provided on the message from the grandfather, they learned it was stolen out of Blair County.

When Williamsburg police talked to the grandfather, he allegedly told them he saw Cervone arrive home in the Honda and asked his grandson where he got the car and, having received a call from him a short time earlier, how he was able to get to Pittsburgh so fast.

Cervone told his grandfather he called a friend from Pittsburgh who drove to Blair County to pick him up, but the grandfather told Cervone that it wasn’t possible since too little time had passed between the call and Cervone’s arrival for a round trip.

Cervone still contended a friend picked him up in Williamsburg and allowed him to borrow the car, police said the grandfather told them.

On Tuesday, Cervone made another trip back to Blair County, this time to speak with police about the stolen car.

Police noted in Cervone’s arrest papers that he confessed to leaving Cove Forge and walking into Williamsburg. With no other way home, Cervone then stole the Honda from behind the convenience store and drove to Pittsburgh. After sleeping in the car a couple of days, Cervone then checked into another rehab, police noted.

Cervone then told Williamsburg police where they could find the Honda, in the Bellevue section of Pittsburgh. Cervone was able to give police directions to the street where he parked it, and the car was recovered by police on Tuesday.

Cervone was released on an unsecured $25,000 bond after his arraignment on Tuesday on felony theft and receiving stolen property charges as well as a misdemeanor count of unauthorized use of an automobile.

Cervone immediately waived his case on to Blair County Court and is due to appear there for a preliminary hearing Jan. 29.

Starting at $2.99/week.
