Four hospitals in UPMC’s West Central Pennsylvania and Maryland region, including UPMC Altoona, UPMC Bedford, UPMC Somerset and UPMC Western Maryland, have been nationally recognized for their commitment to high-quality stroke care.
The awards, presented by the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association, reflect the hospitals’ commitment to modeling up-to-date, research-based guidelines for the treatment of stroke — ultimately leading to more lives saved, shorter recovery times and fewer readmissions to the hospital.

Program gets accreditation
The Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at Conemaugh Nason Medical Center has been nationally certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation through 2028.
Cardiac rehabilitation programs support patients with conditions such as heart attacks, coronary artery bypass graft surgery and other cardiovascular challenges. Through structured exercise, education, counseling and ongoing support, these programs empower patients and their families to achieve better outcomes and healthier futures.
