Primanti Brothers opens today
From Mirror staff reports
Primanti Brothers will open its new restaurant today at 2550 Plank Road Commons, the former Krispy Kreme Doughnuts building.
The new restaurant will open for dinner at 3 p.m. today through Friday. It will open at 11 a.m. with its regular, full-day hours, on Saturday.
“We are excited to be opening in Altoona,” Toni Haggerty, general manager at Primanti’s original location in Pittsburgh’s Strip District, said in a statement. “One of the most common requests we get is, ‘Hey! When are you going to build a restaurant near me?’ So, we decided to save some fans a bit of driving!”
Since 1933, Primanti Brothers has been a dining institution in Pittsburgh. The Almost Famous Primanti Brothers sandwich is built between two slices of Italian bread. It is piled high with a choice of select meats, an optional egg, secret recipe coleslaw and fresh-cut fries.
With an expanded menu, the newest Primanti Brothers in Altoona will also feature made-from-scratch pizza, wings, burgers, salads, soups and a full bar.
The building had been vacant since Krispy Kreme closed in December 2008.
