A city man is in custody after allegedly opening fire on a vehicle carrying his wife and another male overnight in Blair Township.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Danyi Alberto Gonzalez Morla, 24, searched for his wife Monday night after she didn’t come home from work.
Gonzalez Morla located and confronted his wife and another man after finding them engaged in sexual activity in the man’s vehicle at the Eldolyn Terrace, 210 Arlayd Street, Logan Township.
A verbal argument between Gonzalez Morla and the man began while Gonzalez Morla’s wife remained in the vehicle’s back seat.
The wife and man fled the scene, and Gonzalez Morla pursued them in a white pickup truck.
Gonzalez Morla followed the pair across Logan Township, Allegheny Township and Blair Township, according to a release from state police at Hollidaysburg.
Gonzalez Morla pulled beside the man’s vehicle while driving on Charger Highway and discharged 11 rounds from a firearm into the man’s vehicle, with one bullet lodging into his wife’s buttocks, according to the affidavit of probable cause.
About eight bullet holes were found in the driver’s door and rear door, the police report states.
Gonzalez Morla then fled the scene while his wife and the man returned to the wife’s place of employment, which was also where the man’s construction crew was staying. The man relayed the series of events to his supervisor, who recounted the story to Altoona police, the report states.
Gonzalez Morla’s wife was taken to UPMC Altoona to be treated for her injuries, where hospital staff notified Gonzalez Morla, who was her emergency contact. When he arrived at the hospital, officers detained Gonzalez Morla and interviewed his wife at their station. Logan Township police seized Gonzalez Morla’s truck and the other man’s vehicle, which had numerous suspected bullet holes, according to the affidavit.
In an interview, Gonzalez Morla told officers that he wanted to teach his wife and the man a lesson by firing his gun at them, the report states.
A detective visited Gonzalez Morla’s residence on Tuesday morning, where Gonzalez Morla’s wife told them that her husband owned a small, black handgun, which they found underneath his mattress, according to the affidavit.
Gonzalez Morla doesn’t have a concealed carry permit for any weapon, police records state.
He was arraigned Tuesday morning before Magisterial District Judge Wendy R. Mellott.
He was remanded to the Blair County Prison, with bail denied due to being a danger to the community, according to online court documents.
Gonzalez Morla faces two counts of criminal homicide, with the criminal complaint stating “(Gonzalez Morla) did attempt to commit a crime,” although no one was killed.
The press release from the state police at Hollidaysburg listed the incident as an attempted homicide. When contacted, state police confirmed Gonzalez Morla is facing two counts of criminal attempted homicide.
He also faces four felony counts of aggravated assault, a felony count of firearms not to be possessed without a license, two misdemeanor counts of making terroristic threats and four misdemeanor counts of simple assault.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. April 14 before Mellott.
