Fort Roberdeau invites the public to an after-hours educational event, “Going Batty at Fort Roberdeau,” from 8 to 10 p.m. Saturday, July 11. Join Qualified Bat Surveyor Garrett Harris for an engaging program all about the mysterious and marvelous bats of Fort Roberdeau. This free, family-friendly event begins with an indoor presentation in the upper barn where guests will learn about bat biology, behavior and the essential role these nocturnal creatures play in local ecosystems. Following the talk, participants will head outside to listen for real-time bat calls and observe bats departing the barn and bat boxes. Weather permitting, a mist net will be used to humanely trap bats and process them for conservation research. Come dressed for outdoor activities, bring your own flashlight and bug spray, and a blanket or lawn chair to watch the bats. Phoenixville’s favorite movie monster oozes back into town for an epic three-day takeover at the historic Colonial Theatre during the 27th annual Blobfest. The festival, which is set to take place from Saturday, July 11, to Sunday, July 12, pays homage to the Colonial’s starring role in the 1958 Steve McQueen horror classic. The program entitled, “Medieval Fairy Tales with Music,” will feature renaissance dance, the Pied Piper of Hemelin, Elidyr and the Fairies, The Sorcerer’s Magic Show (at 3 p.m.), St. George and the Dragon, and free kazoos for young audience participants.

The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Bedford is thrilled to announce the much-anticipated return of its Biennial Exhibition for 2026. The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art at Altoona is excited to welcome young artists this summer for five days of hands-on creativity, imagination and artistic exploration led by teaching artist Emily Russell. Designed for children and teens who love to create, SAMA’s summer camps encourage students to experiment with new materials, techniques, and ideas while having fun in an inspiring museum setting. The camp will run from Monday, July 27, through Friday, July 31, at The Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in the Brett Building at 1210 11th Ave., Altoona. The first camp for children aged six to nine will run from 9 a.m. to noon each day and the second camp for students 10 to 14 will run from 1 to 4 p.m. daily. The cost is $125 per child.
