Local Scouts collecting gifts during Winterfest parade

Scout Troop 30 will be collecting new, unwrapped toys for the Marine Toys for Tots program during the Hollidaysburg Winterfest parade on Sunday, Nov. 23. Scouts and Marines will be walking alongside the Toy Story float with a Toys for Tots banner near the end of the parade and those with donations can hand the gifts to them.

“History Speaks,” the lecture series of the Blair County Historical Society, will present its final event of the year, at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, at the Altoona Railroaders Memorial Museum. “Altoona’s German Heritage and History” will be presented by Harald Dertinger, historian and himself a German native.
