Altoona library sets Feb. programs

n Join the Kneedle Knerds United for a Fiber Fun Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7. Bring your favorite fiber crafts. Experienced crafters may be available to help you get started. This is a free adult program. No registration is required.
n Paint Space is back! Adults are invited to join us at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, in the library board room. Paint Space is a beginner-friendly, step-by-step painting program facilitated by Art Educator, Elaine Baney. This month, participants will create a winter landscape. Cost for materials is $10 and must be paid in advance. Registration and payment required.
n Paws 2 Read will be held at 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9. This heartwarming program partners the library’s youth room with the local humane society to create a paw-some reading adventure. Kids practice reading aloud to furry friends, boosting their confidence and literacy skills while giving adoptable pets some much-needed love and attention. Call 814-946-0417, ext. 123, to register.
n LEGO Clubs will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 9, Thursday, Feb. 12. All you need is your imagination. This program is geared toward children ages 4 and up. Monthly registration and a library card is required. Call 814-946-0417 ext. 123, to sign up.
n Friends of the AAPL Puzzle Swap will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10. All ages are welcome. Bring a gently used puzzle with all the pieces and swap it with someone else. Please bring only puzzles you are willing to part with for life. No registration is necessary.
n AHHH Brain Freeze for Teens will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 11. Join us after school to solve Penguin Programming Paradox from Breakout EDU while enjoying slushies. Students will try to solve the puzzles, riddles or questions before their brains freeze. The program is for ages 12 to 18. Call 814-946-0417, ext. 125, to register.
n Homeschool Hub: Fantastic Bioplastics will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12. Explore what makes plastic so durable, learn the difference between a bioplastic and its more traditional cousins, and even make some bioplastic. Call 814-946-0417, ext.123, to register.
n Folded Book Art Candy will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 14. Turn an ordinary book into a sweet treat. Children ages 6 to 12 will fold the pages of old books into candies. A magical blend of imagination and craft just in time for Valentine’s Day. Call 814-946-0417, ext. 123, to register.
n Brain Games at the Library: Where Fun Meets Logic — Children explore logic puzzles, memory challenges and strategy games that build critical thinking, problem‒solving and teamwork skills through playful learning. n Friends of the Library will hold Game Night from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, in the library board room. No registration is required. It is for ages 12 and older.
n Intro to Spanish will be held Friday, Feb. 20, with ages 3-6 at 10:30 a.m. and ages 6 and older at 1:30 p.m. Join in this lively ongoing program introducing children to Spanish language and culture through songs, stories and playful activities. Young learners will explore basic vocabulary and cultural traditions in a fun, age-appropriate setting. It’s a wonderful way to spark curiosity and build early language skills. n Cow Check-In Storytime & Craft will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20. The library’s virtually-adopted calf is growing. Join us for an update on her progress, as well as a fun storytime and craft. Registration is not required.
n The Friends of the Library will host its monthly book club at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21, in the library board room. The book for the month is “Hello Beautiful” by Ann Napolitano. n Crafternoon: Framed Word Art will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21. Join us for this Crafternoon to create a framed word art piece for St. Patrick’s Day. All supplies will be provided. n Pokemon TCG Day for Teens will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25. Ready to join one of the world’s largest trading card games? Join us here at the AAPL and start your own pokemon tcg journey. Learn strategy, game sense and deck building all while taking yourself to victory. Never played before? No problem. Starter decks will be available to borrow, and instruction provided to jump right into the action. No registration is required; just show up and play.
n Dental Health Storytime will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 27. February is National Children’s Dental Health Month and a perfect time to promote the benefits of good oral health for children. Children 6 and younger are welcome to join in this very special story time with Pediatric Public Health Dental Hygiene Practitioner Ashley Bonsell with tips for parents to help keep their child’s smile on track. n Mahjong Club meets from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursdays in the library. All adult patrons are welcome to come in to play. No registration required.

n Story Times: Families of young children are invited to check out the library’s free educational story time programs for caregiver and child to enjoy together!
