Several area groups have held fundraisers for the Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center in Windber.

n The Ebensburg Center donated $1,666 from a basket auction, 50/50 and a “pie an administrator” challenge.

The funds will provide financial assistance for patients in need; the latest equipment and technology needed to screen, detect, and diagnose breast cancer; and breast cancer awareness and education.

n The Hiram G. Andrews Center raised $650 through student activities.

n Meyersdale Area School District hosted this year’s Volley for a Cure event, donating $1,904 to the Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center. High school and middle school students from Meyersdale, Turkeyfoot Valley and Rockwood participated in a volleyball tournament, and refreshments were sold to help raise funds. Faculty members from all three districts also formed teams to compete, raising funds through a basket raffle and baked goods sale.
