Cresson library announces activities for January
Cresson Public Library has announced its activities for January.
Pop-Up Craft Days: On Tuesdays, Jan. 6 and 20, children can stop by the library to make winter-themed DIY crafts. All materials and instructions are provided for these DIYs on the table in the children’s section.
Story Time and Activity Hour: Story Time will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10. The second Story Time of the month will be Meet the Therapy Dogs, at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24.
Politics at Christmas Dinner? How Did It Go?: This event is an interesting look at linguistics — words and relationships — by Professor Robert Schrauf of Penn State. All of those sticky, touchy, not-so-polite conversations that were brought up at the holiday dinner table — how did that go? Bring your table conversations (good, bad, ugly or hilarious) for dissection and get them out of your system. Join others at noon Saturday, Jan. 17, for this Let’s Talk About It: Conversations Among Citizens event.
Meet the Therapy Dogs: At 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, therapy dog handlers will read a story about therapy dogs and children will be able to meet two of the dogs. Therapy dogs will be at the library one Saturday per month during Story Time. Each handler must have insurance for their dog, up-to-date veterinary vaccines and certification hours. Pre-registration will begin in January to schedule 15 minutes of your child reading one-on-one to the dog. Studies have shown that reading to animals improves reading fluency, accuracy and comprehension, as well as increased motivation for reading and increased confidence.
Story Stitchers Sewing Club: Story Stitchers will begin their new project meetings from 5 to 7 p.m. Jan. 28 and continue on the fourth Wednesday of each month) at the library. If you can thread a needle, you can participate. Call the library at 814-886-2619 for information on past or present projects.
A Non-Fiction Book Sale is happening over the next few months during library hours while the books are being weeded. All proceeds directly benefit the library.
