A total of 380 parents and children attended the Week of the Young Child Celebration which was held at the Logan Valley Mall on Saturday, April 5.

This event was coordinated by the Week of the Young Child Committee and the United Way of the Southern Alleghenies’ Family Resource Center.

Families and young children who attended visited activity tables provided by 38 area early learning/child development programs and agencies concerned with the health, education and welfare of young children and their families while receiving information, table giveaways and drinks and snacks provided by Sheetz.

In addition, families registered to win a prize basket or mystery prize envelope with prizes donated by DelGrosso’s Amusement Park and Laguna Splash, Central Blair Recreation Commission, Slinky Action Zone, Pleasant Valley Bowling and The Meadows Hollidaysburg.

Sponsors of the event provided some prizes and snacks as well as kiddie train ride tickets for Marucci Brothers train in the mall while supplies lasted.

Four area mascots attended, including McGruff the Crime Dog, Loco, Chuck E. Cheese and Andy Armadillo.

Program sponsors were Altoona Area Public Library, Begin With Us, Betar Dental, Bishop Guilfoyle Academy, Blair Therapies, Central PA Digital Learning Foundation, Crossroads Pregnancy Center, Discovery Toys with Mary Lykens, Early Learning Resource Center Region 6, Family Resource Center of Blair County, Gloria Gates Care, Harbor House Preschool & Kindergarten, Kids First, Penn AEYC, Penn-Mont Academy, Primary Health Network and UPMC for You.

Additional programs included Altoona Area School District Learning Express and ELECT, Blair Drug & Alcohol Drug Partnerships, Bureau of Blind & Visual Services, Child Advocates of Blair County, Girl Scouts of Western PA, Home Nursing Agency WIC Program and Nurse-Family Partnership, Operation Our Town, A Quaint Corner Children’s Museum, Smokin’ Aces Fitness, Trans4mation Station Preschool, UPMC Early Intervention and UPMC for You Dental.
