Community dinners

St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Newry will hold its seafood buffet each Friday through Good Friday. Doors will open at 4 p.m. in the school cafeteria. The buffet is $20 for adults, $15 for children ages 5 to 12 and free to children 4 and younger. The menu includes baked fish, fried fish, shrimp, macaroni and cheese, stewed tomatoes, french fries, pierogies, coleslaw, green beans, soup, beverage and dessert. Available for dine-in and take-out.

Second Avenue United Methodist Church Youth Group, 130 Second Ave., Altoona, will hold its annual fish dinner fundraiser Fridays during Lent, except Good Friday. Tthe all-you-can-eat buffet will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Cost is $17 for adults, $12 for kids 10 and younger and $14 each for take outs. Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church will hold a Lenten Fish Fry each Friday beginning Feb. 24 through Good Friday, April 7, in the church hall. Take out begins at 3:30 p.m. Eat in is open from 4:30 until 7 p.m. or until sold out. Meals are $14 and include baked or fried haddock, mac and cheese or french fries, stewed tomatoes, coleslaw or applesauce, dessert and a drink. The church hall is handicap accessible (ramp and elevator) from the alley entrance.

St. Therese of the Child Jesus Parish, Altoona, will take-out only Lenten fish fry dinners from 4 to 7 p.m. or until sold out on Fridays during Lent through March 31 at Father Kelley Hall, 25th Avenue and Fifth Street. The menu includes the choice of baked or fried fish, stewed tomatoes, choice of coleslaw or applesauce, choice of macaroni & cheese or french fries and homemade dessert (cookies or brownies). Cost is $14 per dinner. Curbside order and delivery service will be from the side door to Father Kelley Hall on Fifth Street or inside the main entrance. Phone-in orders will also be accepted at 814-537-0640 or 814-650-0734 with the pickup site approached through the main parking lot of the church to the side lot of Father Kelley Hall.

Fish fry lunches will be offered from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Fridays during Lent, except Good Friday, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, 1 Cathedral Square, Altoona. Cost is $10 and includes a fish sandwich, macaroni and cheese and coleslaw. The meal is offered on a drive-thru basis only at the alley door. For 10 or more lunches, delivery is available. The Altoona Almrausch Schuhplattlers (German dance group) will hold its 16th annual fish dinner from 5 to 7:30 p.m. (or until sold out) every Friday during Lent through April 7 (Good Friday) at the Unter Uns Club on Van Buren Avenue and 14th Street, Altoona. Fish dinners are $14.50 for adults and $8 for children ages 8 and younger. Dinners include a choice of baked or fried haddock and a choice of baked macaroni and cheese or scalloped potatoes. Meals also include stewed tomatoes, cole slaw, roll and butter and a cookie.

Geeseytown Fire Company will hold Lenten fish dinners from 3 to 7 p.m. every Friday during Lent, including Good Friday. It is a choice of baked or fried haddock, french fries or scalloped potatoes, stewed tomatoes or Harvard beets, along with macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, roll and dessert. Providence Presbyterian Church, 2401 Broad Ave., Altoona, invites the public for a free bag lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, March 18. The lunch will include a sloppy joe sandwich, a bowl of broccoli cheese soup, dessert and fruit. Volunteers will be handing out one bag lunch per person in the church’s parking lot for drive through and walk ups, while supplies last.
