Unique holiday finds and fun: 4th annual HoHo Expo event set for Dec. 1
The holidays are quickly sneaking up on us. Every day forward on the calendar is one day closer to needing to have all of the holiday chores done — from decorating to baking to cleaning to shopping. With all of the activities there are to accomplish, one way to join others for fun — and get that shopping done — is to visit the upcoming HoHo Expo, sponsored by the Altoona Mirror.
The fourth annual event will be held at the Altoona Grand Hotel. The family-friendly day will feature local vendors and businesses who will showcase their wares and help visitors take care of shopping needs.
“There are going to be about 50 vendors at the event. We have everything. Handmade crafts and decorations, jewelry, bath bombs, make up, candles, clothing, CBD oils, dips, wine and much more,” said Madalyn McCaulley, event specialist at the Altoona Mirror.
In addition to the goods mentioned, McCaulley also noted that seasonal products will be sold — perfect for gift giving.
“A lot of the items that vendors are selling are geared toward the holiday season. So guests can buy things for themselves or for friends and family as presents,” she said.
McCaulley said that in previous years more than 600 people usually attended the event. The HoHo Expo is traditionally marked by unique, local products as well as fun sessions — like paint classes.
Paint Party by Sarah will be at the HoHo Expo again this year offering two sessions. The first one will be a paint class for adults and the other one will be a mommy-and-me-styled paint class.
The mommy-and-me paint class will start at 11 a.m. and the charge is $45, which includes all materials and instruction as well as pastries from Mrs. Groves Pastries.
The adult paint class is for those who are 21 years old and over will begin at 2 p.m. That class is $35 per person and also includes materials, instruction, pastries and mimosas. There are limited spaces available for both sessions and those who want to register should call 946-7536.
“This event is going to really get us in the holiday spirit. It’s an exciting time of year for everyone. People seem to really enjoy this event and look forward to coming back again and again,” said Sarah Jubek, owner of Paint Party by Sarah.
Jackie Cohenour, owner of Cohenours Crafts, attended the HoHo Expo last year and is anticipating this year’s event because it generates excitement for the holidays.
“It was a great festival. The customers were friendly — it just puts you in the mood for Christmas,” she said.
Cohenour, whose business is out of Mill Creek, will be selling solar light posts with personalized flags, signs and primitive buckets. “They are all made by my family and I,” she said.
She is going to showcase and sell some of her new creations there as well. “We are looking forward to showing some of our new designs this year to the customers. This show is great to come out and do your Christmas shopping with local vendors with their handmade items,” Cohenour said.
It will be a festive, fun day to see and buy unique products and to take some time out during the hectic season to savor it before it ends. If guests over 21 years old visit the Altoona Mirror booth at the expo, they will receive a free voucher for wine from the Grouse’s Nest.
McCaulley said, “This is a fun and relaxing way to holiday shop for yourself and for your loved ones. Enjoy a glass of wine while supporting local artists, vendors and businesses.”
