Summer Sounds, Summer Carnivals and Much More This Weekend!

Here is a listing of area live music and online music happenings for the weekend and week of Friday, June 10 through Thursday, June 16.

The outdoor live music season is quickly escalating toward full steam ahead, and this weekend and upcoming week offer plenty of outdoor concerts, carnivals, festivals and other events worthy of your consideration.

First, downtown Altoona’s “Summer Sounds” concert series gets under way on Friday evening, kicking off with Shallow 9 at Heritage Plaza. Food and refreshments will be available for purchase. The music kicks off at 6 p.m., and admission is free.

Several communities have carnivals and festivals taking place this weekend. The Patton Fire Company No. 1 hosts their 14th annual Firemen’s Jubilee from Friday night through Sunday afternoon. Taking place in front of the fire station on Magee Avenue in downtown Patton, the Jubilee will feature food, refreshments, a pet and bicycle parade on Friday, a community parade on Saturday, fire truck rides, a cornhole tournament and “Battle of the Barrel” on Saturday, basket giveaways and a classic car show on Sunday. Live music will be a part of the festivities as well, with Blairsville-based rock group Hy-5 entertaining on Friday, and the debut of Altoona’s Autumn Rising – featuring most of the roster of the former This Albatross – on Saturday night. Admission to the Jubilee is free.

Nanty Glo hosts their annual Community Days celebration from Friday through Sunday afternoon at the Nanty Glo Fire Department. This festival will also feature food and refreshments, along with cornhole tournaments on Friday and Saturday, basket giveaways, the 9th annual Paul Galko 5K (2 mile) Family Walk on Saturday morning, a kids’ “Battle of the Barrel” and duck race on Saturday, and live music on Friday and Saturday nights. Friday’s music will be country, as Kevin Dale takes the stage at 9 p.m., while Johnstown’s Octane brings the rock on Saturday starting at 9 p.m. Admission to Community Days is free.

Hollidaysburg’s Legion Park will be the site for an event on Saturday to bring awareness and raise funds to address soldier suicides. Presented in honor of Pete Dannenberg, American Legion Post 516 Hollidaysburg presents “For Pete’s Sake: Let’s Put an End to Soldier Suicide.” The day’s events will kick off at 10 a.m. with a Catholic Mass at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Hollidaysburg. The gates at Legion Park will then open at 4 p.m., with an opening ceremony at 5 p.m. featuring suicide awareness and education speakers, and live music from Felix & the Hurricanes. Food trucks will be on hand, and adult beverages will be available for purchase. For more information about the event, visit the website www.4pete.org.

High Profile Talent Agency will present the “Self Expression Festival” on Saturday afternoon at downtown Altoona’s Heritage Plaza. Beginning at 2 p.m., this event will feature arts displays and vendors, Rebelz food truck and Street Treatz, and live music from Dr. Chance Bartleby & the ?! and Neon Hotel. Admission is free.

And Felix & the Hurricanes will kick off the 2022 season of Downtown Hollidaysburg’s summer concert series on the Diamond on Thursday evening. The music kicks off at 6 p.m., and downtown Hollidaysburg businesses and food vendors will be open, and refreshments will be available. Admission is free.
