Purdue eager to get after national championship dreams

Big Ten Tournament Penn State vs. Michigan, PEACOCK, 9 p.m. By Dave Campbell The Associated Press MINNEAPOLIS — For as powerful of a program Purdue has built, the Boilermakers have had a rather tenuous relationship with the postseason. Their last date was as painful as it gets, an ignominious defeat by undersized Farleigh Dickinson that went down as just the second time in NCAA Tournament history a No. 1 seed lost in the first round in 152 games against 16th seeds. Every year brings a fresh opportunity, though. This team still has Zach Edey, the 7-foot-4 picture of ...

Lions use spring time to test out new looks

By Andy Stine astine@altoonamirror.com UNIVERSITY PARK — Tuesday was the first day of spring football practice at Penn State, which means it was also the first day of Abdul Carter’s transition to a defensive end. Health of Lions’ Starocci in the spotlight

By Andy Elder For the Mirror With defending champion Penn State the prohibitive favorite to repeat as the Big Ten tournament champion, most of the focus this week has been more on one Nittany Lion than the other nine. Two-time defending 174-pound Big Ten champion Carter Starocci, the three-time NCAA champ, suffered what appeared to be a knee injury in the last dual of the season. His status for the tournament, Saturday and Sunday at the Xfinity Center in College Park, Maryland, remains up in the air. But earlier in the week the reports sounded promising. “He’s doing pretty ...
