JOHNSTOWN -- The Johnstown Tomahawks announced Thursday that former defenseman Hunter Carrick has committed to play at Penn State University.
Carrick, of Orland Park, Ill., started the season with the Tomahawks, scoring two goals and adding four assists in 16 games before being called up to the USHL's Omaha Lancers.
"Hunter is extremely deserving of his commitment to Penn State and I could not be happier for him," Johnstown coach Mike Letizia said.
Carrick is the second Tomahawks player to commit to Penn State as former defenseman Adam Pilewicz announce he was going to Penn State last season.
Freshman selected
UNIVERSITY PARK -- Freshman defenseman Cole Hults was named to the preliminary roster for the 2018 U.S. National Junior Team that will compete in the 2018 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championships in Buffalo, N.Y. in early 2018.
"Cole plays a very mature game which has enabled him to have a quick transition to Division I hockey," mentioned Penn State coach Guy Gadowsky.
The U.S. team, which is aiming for back-to-back gold medal finishes for the first time ever, will begin camp at Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio from Dec. 15-19 and play a pair of pre-tournament games on Dec. 20 at Northwest Arena in Jamestown, N.Y. against Belarus and on Dec. 22 against Sweden at Erie Insurance Arena in Erie. Puck drop for both contests is set for 7 p.m.
