Lady Tigers’ Ruggery, Jodon reach 3A final

Hollidaysburg’s Paige Jodon and Payton Ruggery advanced to the championship match of the District 6 Class 3A Girls Doubles Tennis Tournament.

Jodon and Ruggery, the top seed, will face State College’s Kelly Vanden and Catelyn Janac, the No. 2 seed, in today’s 12:30 p.m. final at Penn State Altoona. The match will be held indoors at Gorilla House if it rains.

Jodon and Ruggery won two matches on Wednesday at PSU Altoona, beating DuBois’ Alexis Strouse and Alexa Zartman, 6-1, 6-2, in the quarterfinals and Central Mountain’s Kendall McCluskey and Natalie Brown in the semifinals, 6-3, 6-3.

Vanden and Janac beat Hollidaysburg’s Alycia Auerbeck and Samantha Betar in the quarterfinals, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1, and defeated Altoona’s Alese Rinker and Zoe Wilson in the semifinals, 6-3, 7-5.

Also today at 12:30, Central Cambria’s Olivia Ratchford and Emma Ratchford will face Westmont Hilltop’s Lindsey Pullin and Abby Majercsik in the Class 2A final.

Bedford eliminated

BEDFORD — Bedford was eliminated from the District 5 Team Tournament, thanks to a 3-2 loss to Windber in the semifinals.

The Lady Bisons won the first two matches, thanks to Nos. 1 and 2 players Emily Ruhlman and Lindsay Shuke. However, Windber won at No. 3 singles and both doubles events to take the victory.

Windber will play at Somerset today for the team title.

NEW PARIS — Bishop Guilfoyle defeated Chestnut Ridge, 5-0, as Erin Talko, Sarah Manna and Victoria McElheny swept the singles competition for the Lady Marauders.

Huntingdon netters win

HUNTINGDON — Alicyn Albaugh won her singles match, then teamed with Lainey Albaugh for a doubles victory, to lead Huntingdon to a 6-1 win over visiting Clearfield.

Liv Vlasak, Caroline Sliver, Julia Thompson and Avalon Ritchey scored singles wins for Huntingdon, while the Clearfield team of Kristen Van Tassel and Sam Wiser posted a doubles victory.
