Panther soph will transfer

PITTSBURGH – Sophomore Peace Ilegomah will transfer from the University of Pittsburgh.

The 6-foot-9 center had appeared in seven games and was averaging 0.9 points and 1.0 rebounds per game for the Panthers.

“We support Peace’s decision to continue his academic and athletic career at another institution,” Pitt head coach Jeff Capel said. “We are thankful for his contributions to the Pitt program and wish him well.”

Pitt returns to action Saturday against Maryland Eastern Shore at home for a 2 p.m. tipoff. The Panthers are 7-3 on the season, including a 5-1 mark at the Petersen Events Center.

Michigan RB dismissed

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Michigan dismissed running back O’Maury Samuels from its football program on the same day he was arraigned on two charges, including one for domestic violence.

The school did not say why the move was made Wednesday, when Samuels was charged with domestic violence and malicious destruction of personal property. The date of the alleged offenses was Dec. 8 and Samuels is scheduled for a hearing on Dec. 27 in Ann Arbor District Court.

The sophomore finished the season with 13 rushing attempts for 66 yards. He did not run the ball for the eighth-ranked Wolverines after Oct. 13, when he had one carry for 3 yards in a win over Wisconsin.

NBA executive pleads guilty

SAN FRANCISCO — Court records show a former Sacramento Kings top executive has agreed to plead guilty to siphoning $13.4 million from the team to buy Southern California beachfront properties.

Federal prosecutors in Sacramento, California, on Wednesday filed charges and a plea agreement signed by former chief revenue officer Jeffrey David admitting to forging the team president’s signature to divert sponsorship payments to a bank account he controlled. Court records show the properties have been sold for $14.8 million, and the team is expected to recoup the stolen funds.

David is expected to plead guilty to wire fraud and identity theft in January and faces at least two years in prison.

Suns waiting for new arena

PHOENIX — The Phoenix City Council has postponed a vote on a proposed $230 million renovation of the Talking Stick Resort Arena that would keep the Suns in downtown Phoenix.

The council agreed unanimously Wednesday to postpone a decision until Jan. 23 so residents can attend five public meetings to be held around Phoenix to discuss the project.

The deal would revamp the nearly 30-year-old arena, the oldest in the NBA that is not currently being renovated. The Suns agreed to a 40-year lease in 1992, but the deal included a provision for the team to opt out at 30 years.
