Dr. Adam G. Trybus Sr., 77, Hollidaysburg, passed away at his residence on Tuesday surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy and courageous battle with prostate cancer.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Raymond F. Sr. and Hazel A. (Bradley) Trybus.
Surviving are his loving wife of 58 years, Jean L. (Blendl) Trybus; a son, Dr. Adam G. Trybus Jr. (Diane) of Hollidaysburg; two daughters: Kelley A. (Trybus) Harris (Brian) of Morristown, N.J. and Jennifer A. (Trybus) Myrick (Gary) of Altoona; 10 grandchildren: Adam Trybus III (Julie), Brendan Trybus, Alyssa Trybus, Joshua Trybus, Cassidy Harris, Bradley Harris, Gabrielle Myrick, Delaney Myrick, Keegan Myrick and Brennen Myrick; a great-granddaughter, Grace Trybus; a brother, Raymond F. Trybus Jr. of Pittsburgh; and a sister, M. Dorothy Trybus of Ebensburg.
Adam was a graduate of Altoona High School, Class of 1958. He also was a graduate of Georgetown University in 1962 and Hahnemann Medical College in 1966. After an internship at Altoona General Hospital, he entered the U.S. Army and served in the Republic of Vietnam as a medical officer, earning a Bronze Star Medal. While stationed at Ban Me Thout, South Vietnam, he volunteered at the local provincial hospital caring for the local residents. He finished his training at Darnall Army Medical Center in Fort Hood, Texas. After his military career, he returned to Altoona to practice medicine with Anthony Fenello, MD and Peter Pontzer, MD. In 1975, he joined Blair Medical Associates, where he practiced Family Medicine until his retirement on Jan. 1, 2000. During his years in practice, he was active with Home Nursing Agency and the American Cancer Society.
He was a lifelong member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and he also was a member of Scotch Valley Golf Club. Adam enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, golfing, boating at Glendale Lake and family vacations at Kiawah Island, S.C. His greatest joys came from being involved in his children's and grandchildren's lives and taking pride in their accomplishments.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 25, 2018, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2018, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Altoona. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery.
