Jo-Anne (Orent) Halpern

April 13,1945 - March 16, 2018

Jo-Anne (Orent) Halpern, 72, Hollidaysburg, passed away in the early morning hours on Friday at The Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg after an extended illness.

She was born in Baltimore, Md., daughter of the late Marjorie and Max Orent. She grew up in Hanover, with her sister Janice Quint; beloved cousin, Michael Freilich; and life-long friend, Richard Alleman.

Surviving are a son, Hugh (Jennifer); a daughter, Lauren (Allen) Cohn; and three grandchildren: Ari, Marcus and Michael.

She was preceded in death by a son, Lee Randall in 1972.

Jo-Anne attended Dickinson College and received her law degree from the Dickinson College of Law. She clerked for several judges in Blair County, including Judges Campbell, Foreman and Brumbaugh. She also distinguished herself in her own private practice, specializing in estate and family law.

During the later years of her life, she resided at The Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg. During those years, she was lovingly cared for by her friends, Don and Kate Ruggery and the staff at the home, who were truly like her second family.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 19, 2018, at Agudath Achim Cemetery, Altoona, Rabbi Josh Wohl officiating. Arrangements are by E. Merrill Smith Funeral Home Inc., 2309 Broad Ave., Altoona.
