John Nepomuk Zitzlsperger Jr.

April 24, 1935 - Feb. 1, 2018

John Nepomuk Zitzlsperger Jr., 82, Altoona, passed away Thursday at UPMC Altoona.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late John N. Sr. and Rosina (Schafflhuner) Zitzlsperger.

Surviving are a niece, Laurie A. Zitzlsperger (Thomas) Ricketts; a great-niece, Olivia; a great-nephew, Nathaniel; a sister-in-law, Shirley Zitzlsperger; and a special cousin, Rosemary Long and husband, Bill.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Frank X. Zitzlsperger; and a nephew, Brian M. Zitzlsperger.

John was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from Conrail.

He was a lifelong member of Bavarian Aid Society and a very supportive member of the VFW. He enjoyed gardening and golfing, and he was a very devoted son to his parents.

Friends will be received from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 5, 2018, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Altoona, by Monsignor Timothy P. Stein. Committal will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions in John’s memory be made to VFW National Headquarters, 406 W. 34th St., Kansas City, MO 64111.
