Nancy Jane Hoover

She was born in Roaring Spring, daughter of the late Russell B. and Elizabeth (Beck) Garver. On June 29, 1946, she married the love of her life, Robert R. Hoover in Roaring Spring, and he preceded her in death on June 5, 2010.

Surviving are four children: Daniel B. Hoover and wife, Cindy, Elizabeth “Betsy” Harmon-Garach and husband, Mark, Russell C. Hoover and wife, Anita, and Barbara H. Smith and husband, Scott, all of Roaring Spring; nine grandchildren: Daniel and Joseph Hoover, Josh and Matt Harmon, Abby (Harmon) Martin, Brandi Claycomb, Susan Lovelace, David Garach and Shannon Smith; 18 great-grandchildren; and two sisters-in-law: Miriam Hoover and Betty Jean Hoover.

She was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Brielle Harmon; two sisters: Lois Lang and Betty Swope; and a son-in-law, Paul J. Harmon. She was the last descendant of the fourth generation of D.M. Bare.

Nancy was a 1942 graduate of Roaring Spring High School and a 1946 graduate of Swarthmore College.

She was a founding member of the Girl Scouts in Roaring Spring and remained active with them for many years. She also served as treasurer of Gleaners Sunday School class; treasurer of Nason Hospital Auxiliary; stockholder and on the board of directors at Roaring Spring Blank Book Co.; and past trustee and on the board of directors at Nason Hospital and the Nason Foundation — all positions that she held for many decades.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Roaring Spring. She also volunteered for the American Red Cross. She enjoyed vacationing with her husband and family at their homes in Bakers Summit and Gulf Port, Fla.

Friends will be received from 10:30 a.m. until the noon funeral service, Monday, Nov. 7, 2016, at First Church of the Brethren, Roaring Spring, Pastor Dale Dowdy officiating. Interment will be at Greenlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Nancy’s memory may be given to the Garver Memorial YMCA, 820 Grove Street, Roaring Spring, PA 16673. Arrangements are by Todd T. Thompson Funeral Home Inc., Roaring Spring.
