Michael F. ‘Micky’ Farrell

Michael F. “Micky” Farrell, 75, Altoona, died Wednesday at UPMC in Pittsburgh after a brief illness.

He was born in Altoona, the youngest of 13 children of the late Benjamin and Mary (Muri) Farrell. He married Louise Ball on Sept. 12, 1956, and they were happily married for 56 years.

Surviving are his wife; seven children: James and wife, Robin, of Augusta, Ga., Karen Brandt and husband, Kevin, of Altoona, Greg and wife, Kathy, of Annandale, Va., Bruce and wife, Lisa, of Lexington, Ky., Doug and wife, Cindy, of Gallitzin and Jerry and Michael of Altoona; 13 grandchildren: Jenna, Katlyn, Jaclyn, Daniel, Ryan, Adam, Meghan, Brad, Jerod, Travis, Patrick, Colton and Alexis; five great-grandchildren; and three sisters: Margie Welsh, Rita Kelliher and Susan Mitchell.

He was preceded in death by five brothers: George, Patrick, James, John and Al; and four sisters: Gertrude Wicker, Florence Holmberg, Anna McCaa and Kathleen Elizabeth Farrell (Sister Euphrasia).

Micky’s career included more than 30 years as a commercial truck driver. After retirement, he very much enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s school events and activities. He was a member of the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. In his spare time, he loved to read and stay up on current events, and he was especially fond of history.

There will be no viewing at the request of the deceased. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 2013, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, 1 Cathedral Square, Altoona, PA 16601.
