Voting machine training planned
Libraries offering sessions with new equipment
Demonstrations on how to use the county’s new paper record voting system will be held this month at local libraries, Blair County Director of Elections Sarah Seymour said Tuesday.
The county was mandated to have a voter-verifiable paper record voting system in place for this fall’s election.
In April, the county commissioners authorized the purchase of a new system to meet state requirements, costing almost $900,000.
Seymour told commissioners that the new equipment, supplied by Elections Systems and Software of Omaha, Neb., has arrived.
She said the new system, replacing the voting machines that had been in place for the past 13 years, will be used for the first time during the Nov. 5 general election.
Residents can receive hands-on training on the new system at eight local libraries.
The first training will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Tyrone-Snyder Public library, 1000 Pennsylvania Ave., Tyrone.
Additional sessions will be held at the following locations:
Sept. 17, Claysburg Area Public Library, 957 Bedford St., Claysburg; 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Sept. 18, Bellwood-Antis Public Library, 526 Main St., Bellwood; 6 to 7:30 p.m.
