Blair Twp. police probe fatal motorcycle accident

Coroner confirms woman’s death

Police in Blair Township continue to investigate a motorcycle crash that claimed the life of a Johnstown woman.

Blair County Coroner Patricia Ross said Wednesday that 52-year-old Joyce Faith of Johnstown died from a head injury at UPMC Altoona after the motorcycle she was riding as a passenger slid out as it merged onto Route 22 from Plank Road at the Wye Switches in Duncansville on Sunday.

Ross said the driver of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle was a very experienced rider and the bike slid when it came upon a patch of hydraulic fluid on the road. Faith was not wearing a helmet and struck her head on the pavement in the crash, Ross said.

Blair Township Police Chief Roger White said the wreck was one of two motorcycle crashes at the intersection, with Faith being a passenger on the first motorcycle. A second motorcycle with one rider wrecked after the first bike. Police continue to investigate both crashes that occurred about 3 p.m., White said.
