HASB plans tax increase

Tentative budget has property owners paying an additional $34 a year

The Hollidaysburg Area School Board tentatively agreed on a tax increase for the 2019-20 budget.

A Wednesday work-session meeting led the board to propose a tax increase of 0.2078 mills.

The average assessed value in the district is $165,000. With the Hollidaysburg Area School District's current tax rate of 8.8883 mills, the annual tax bill on property of that value is $1,466. An increase of 0.2078 mills would be $34.28 more on their yearly tax bill or $2.86 per month.

Of that new tax increase, 0.2061 mills would be allocated to the school district, generating $490,302, and 0.0017 mills would be designated to the Hollidaysburg Area Public Library, to increase the library funding by $3,796.

Hollidaysburg Business Manager Susan Baker noted that the tax increase would be the second increase in 10 years. The last tax increase was in 2016-17.

The final budget adoption with the tax increase is scheduled to take place at 7 p.m. June 12 in the Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School library.

However, there is one more meeting scheduled in which the budget could be discussed.

That meeting is slated for 6 p.m. June 5.
