A Duncansville man faces charges after police said he passed fake money at three businesses.
Blair Township police charged Damon C. Ledford, 43, of 509 Derose Drive, with felony and misdemeanor counts of forgery and misdemeanor theft-related counts stemming from several incidents in late January in which Ledford allegedly used or tried to use "Chinese training currency" to buy items at area stores.
Chinese training money is used to train bank tellers in China, and although it looks like real U.S. currency, the bills are emblazoned in pink ink with Chinese characters.
Ledford allegedly had used a black marker to try to hide the Chinese characters on the money in some incidents, and in others he pulled out the bills and then told the cashier he handed it to them by mistake if they questioned the money, according to charges filed Thursday.
In one instance, Ledford was able to pass off a fake $10 bill as real to buy goods.
When questioned by police, Ledford claimed he did present the fake bills at two of the stores in order to warn them about the Chinese training money.
Ledford was released Thursday on a unsecured $25,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 19 in Hollidaysburg District Court.
