Uniontown resident Adam Sedlock will run as a Democratic candidate for the 9th Congressional District, pledging to instill and protect the vision of democracy of the Founding Fathers.
"We need a Congress who will place country above party," Sedlock wrote in an email. "A Congress who will stand up to a president and protect the values of our Founding Fathers. A Congress who will fight for 'life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.' We need a congressman who will fight for 'truth, justice and the American way.'"
"Our Founding Fathers did not envision career politicians," Sedlock added. "They envisioned a democracy where citizens would represent themselves, not corporations. Citizen leaders would serve their country for a period of time and then return to their previous profession. We need representation of the people, by the people and for the people. I pledge to provide such."
Sedlock will be joining Republican candidates Art Halvorson, Travis Schooley and John H. Eichelberger Jr. in the race for Rep. Bill Shuster's position. Sedlock ran as a write-in candidate against Shuster and Halvorson in the fall 2016 election.
If elected as congressman, Sedlock said he will foster job growth and innovation, fix the "broken campaign system" by implementing term limits, protect voting rights and "restore our democracy."
Sedlock is the owner of a large private practice, Behavioral Health Clinic, providing testimony in criminal cases. He is the past director of behavioral health for Corizon Corp. and a licensed psychologist manager for the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections.
After graduating from Frazier High School in Perryopolis in 1971, Sedlock earned a master's degree in psychology from California University of Pennsylvania in 1980. He went on to receive his certification as a school psychologist in 1981 and his license to practice psychology in 1990.
