JOHNSTOWN -- Representatives of Wendy's restaurants in Pennsylvania's west/central region Tuesday will present another check to Pennsylvania Veterans of Foreign Wars officers, including State Commander Dwight Fuhrman, to support military families and veterans facing hardship.
The campaign's eighth check -- this year $35,000 -- will be presented by Wendy's, bringing the campaign donation total to $220,546.
So far, 125 grants have been distributed to assist those serving in, and those who have served in, the military. Grants have helped recipients recover from financial crises.
The official campaign name is "The Michael J. Beaver Wendy's-Pennsylvania Veterans of Foreign Wars Military Assistance Grant Program," in honor of the fund's creator.
Beaver, of Salix, was an Army Special Forces veteran who passed away two years ago.
His wife, Diane Beaver, has worked with other Wendy's franchise owners in the area to keep supporting military troops and veterans through the grant program.
"The Wendy's campaign leaders and the participating Wendy's stores continue to provide an outstanding level of life-changing financial support for military personnel, their families and veterans facing hard times," Fuhrman, a Vietnam War veteran, said in a statement. "The VFW is very appreciative of the support that Wendy's, their customers and the media give to this fundraiser to help military families and veterans."
"We are proud to be a part of this important project because serving and supporting our troops, their families and veterans is a top VFW priority. We commend Wendy's for serving up such strong support for our troops and veterans," he said.
