Man accused of sexually assaulting 11-year-old girl
A Hollidaysburg man is in custody on charges he sexually assaulted an 11-year-old girl.
Vincent C. Crowley, 25, 431 Bedford St., was arrested by Altoona police Wednesday morning and booked on felony sex crime charges stemming from the alleged abuse of a girl in 2014.
According to charges filed by Altoona police, Crowley sexually assaulted the girl in 2014 and then threatened, “If you tell anybody, I am going to kill you.”
Crowley moved to Alabama when the allegations first came to light, and Altoona police began investigating in August 2014, police said.
When police learned he had moved and tracked him down in 2014, Crowley allegedly told an Altoona police detective who called him on the phone that he had no intentions of returning to Pennsylvania and during a basic interview with a police chief in Florala, Ala., he denied the allegations.
Police said investigators learned Crowley was back in Blair County after another police department contacted Altoona police for assistance in a child sexual assault investigation.
By chance, Crowley turned out to be a suspect in that still ongoing investigation, one that involves a 4-year-old girl.
In October, Altoona police detective Cpl. Nichole Douglas was finally able to question Crowley, and according to the charges, Crowley’s statements helped corroborate the girl’s story. Police said Crowley’s story was inconsistent in a multiple of ways, and he could give no reason as to why he abruptly moved to Alabama when he learned of the investigation back in 2014.
After his arrest Wednesday, Crowley was taken before Magisterial District Judge Jeffrey Auker, who set bail at $70,000 cash. A preliminary hearing is slated for Jan. 4 at Central Court.
