A former Park Hills Golf Club employee is accused of stealing close to $90,000 in a year.
Nicole D. Perrin, 35, of 655 Orchard Drive, Duncansville, worked as the club’s office manager and bookkeeper from April 21, 2014, through Jan. 22, 2016, and was solely responsible for the club’s accounting, which included depositing payments made to the club.
Police said the club brought in an outside accounting firm and found that Perrin allegedly stole $73,623.87 in cash from the club between
Jan. 1, 2015, and Jan. 22, 2016, her last day working for the club.
Perrin also is accused of using the club’s automated clearinghouse process through Reliance Bank to pay $7,640.88 in personal bills and using the club’s Visa card to make $7,706.96 in unauthorized transactions.
According to the charges, management at the club noticed something was amiss in January when some vendors were not paid in a timely manner. A closer look at the books suggested large amounts of missing cash and unauthorized use of the club’s credit card and online banking system.
Police said Perrin manipulated the accounting records, mainly by increasing payroll expenses, to hide the missing money and put off reconciling the books with bank deposits.
In one instance, Perrin pocketed $1,331 of a member’s $1,452 dues payment and only recorded a $121 payment to the member’s account.
Police said the unauthorized bank transactions went to pay various bills, including $1,320 to pay on a Wells Fargo card and $1,430.99 for WF Home Mortgage. These payments using the bank’s automated clearing house system were done using Perrin’s husband’s name, police noted. Other bills allegedly paid were Verizon Wireless and Capital One Auto.
Police noted there were 21 unauthorized uses of the club’s credit card, including thousands to the sports, concert and event ticket broker website Stubhub.
One Stubhub transaction in October 2015 was for $2,432.40, police noted.
Other charges included Amazon, Modcloth, Urban Outfitters and a $1,854.75 charge to Ticketmaster on Dec. 25, 2015, court records show.
A call to Park Hills on Monday was not returned, and Perrin’s attorney, Joel Peppetti, said he couldn’t comment at this time because he had not had an opportunity to see the criminal charges filed against his client.
Perrin was charged Monday by Logan Township police with five felony theft-related counts and is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday by Magisterial District Judge Steven Jackson.
