Seven children ages 9 to 14 from Juniata Valley Elementary School spent the morning and afternoon with the club members. The children were given a derby T-shirt, a tackle box filled with fishing items and also a quality rod and reel to keep. The children were given safety instructions on the proper way to use their fishing equipment by Dale A. Harten, president. Each child was partnered with a club member or club volunteer and went fishing for several hours. Lunch was provided for all who attended the derby.
