The new Proctor-Silex appliance plant in Bellmeade along Route 220, not scheduled to go into production until the end of the month, had 38 female trainees on two assembly lines turning out juice blenders as a training exercise. Ice cream freezers were also scheduled to be made there. The firm was headquartered in Philadelphia.
25 YEARS AGO: Jan. 4, 1994
Allen C. Meadors, 46, a dean at Eastern Washington University, was hired as chief executive officer at the Penn State Altoona campus, replacing James A. Duplass, who went to the University of South Florida.

Roxanne Hart of Altoona, who met presidential candidate Barack Obama at the Pleasant Valley Recreation Center in Altoona when he bowled there in March, was invited to Obama’s inauguration by Sen. Bob Casey, who was also at the center.
