It’s construction season for Dreams Go On Inc., as their new barn takes shape on a 14.5-acre plot along Turkey Valley Road in Frankstown Township.
“We can finally see the walls,” program manager Debbie Kelly said.
Dreams Go On – a nonprofit 501(c)(3) program designed to help physically and/or emotionally challenged individuals through horseback riding therapy – is the Altoona Mirror’s 2025 Season of Sharing recipient.
The barn project has been in the making for years and now that work is underway, construction is expected to finish in March 2026, said Tracy Pellegrino, Dreams Go On board vice president. Frontier Construction and Lawruk Builders are working on the project that will include an indoor riding arena, stalls and a parent observation room.
Pellegrino said the organization’s new facility will be move-in ready in April or May, though the project is weather dependent, which could quicken or slow down the construction process.
In the next few days, contractors will be placing the metal roof on top of the barn structure. After the roof is set, Pellegrino said installation of the electricity and plumbing can begin.
“The project is moving along very well,” she said.
Once the barn is complete, Dreams Go On can expand its programming.
Overall, the budgeted project cost is $1.6 million, according to Pellegrino.
The anticipated project has been “a dream” for their organization, Pellegrino said.
“And now that we can see the reality, it fuels the excitement,” she said.
