Nelson E. Ritchey, 92, known affectionately as "Jack," "Pap" and "Old Pap," of Duncansville, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, March 20, 2025. Born in Blue Knob, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary (Bowser) Ritchey. On May 25, 1956, he married Dolores Arlene Bowser in Winchester, Virginia.
He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Arlene; his son, Danny Ritchey (Lisa) of Blue Knob; his daughter, Tammie Reffner (Tim) of Altoona; two grandchildren, Obadiah (Erin) and Jacob (Danielle); and three great-grandchildren: Trenton, Isaiah and Elias. He is also survived by his brother, Kenneth Ritchey (Connie).
Nelson was preceded in death by his siblings.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, he served in Korea, attaining the rank of Corporal. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with a bronze star and the Combat Infantry Badge. He retired as a car repairman from Conrail on June 8, 1992.
An avid outdoorsman, Nelson loved hunting, fishing and gardening. He cherished moments spent enjoying coffee and quality time with his family. Known for his handiness, he possessed a talent for tinkering and could repair most anything.
He was a member of Puzzletown Road Bible Church.
Family and friends will be received on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, from 2 to 4 p.m. at The Good Funeral Home Inc., located at 108 Alto Reste Park, Altoona. Military honors will be observed at 4 p.m. A private interment will be held at Alto Reste Park, Altoona.
