Leona L. Haag

Leona L. Haag, 98, of Tyrone, and a resident of Graystone, Altoona, passed away Wednesday. She was born in Tyrone, a daughter of the late Leo Joseph and Rosa (Schoch) Long.

At St. Matthew Catholic Church in Tyrone, she married Philip A. Haag, who preceded her in death on July 5, 2000.

She is survived by five children: Anthony (Janice), Lawrence, Alan, Bryan (Kristin) Haag and Jean (Jay) Lehner; nine grandchildren: Joseph (Marissa) Haag, Lauren (Jerod) Torrenti, Maggie, Michael, Lauren and Luke Haag and Jack, Kevin and Katherine Lehner; and four great-grandchildren: Layla, Ava, Harlow Leona and Jaxon.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Georgette Thompson and Virginia Lilly.

Leona was a graduate of Tyrone High School.

She was a devoted member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, where she was very active in the life of the church. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court St. Rita 523 for over 70 years. She served as both Vice Regent and Regent during her time with CDA. She also volunteered with Meals on Wheels and helped to coordinate many bus trips -- all around the country and overseas.

She enjoyed sewing, traveling and being a resident in the Graystone communities where she lived -- in Tyrone for 15 years and most recently in Altoona for five. Leona loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 10 until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial Monday, March 24, 2025, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, Tyrone, with Father Michael Pleva officiating. Interment will be made at Oak Grove Cemetery, Tyrone, following the Mass.

Arrangements are by Richard H. Searer Funeral Home Inc., Tyrone.
