Tyrone’s Scott, Altoona’s Ciampoli win regional wrestling titles

Tyrone senior Kyle Scott and Altoona junior Gavin Ciampoli won regional wrestling titles on Saturday.

Scott captured his first Class 2A Southwest Regional title with a 7-0 win over Derry Area’s Brady Brown in the finals at the Altoona Area High School Fieldhouse. Scott (43-0) went 4-0 n the tournament and tied A.J. Schopp’s school record for career wins with 160. 

In Canonsburg, Ciampoli won the 160-pound title at the PIAA 3A West Regional at Canon-McMillan High School.

Altoona advanced four wrestlers to Hershey for the PIAA Class 3A Championship on March 5-7.

Senior Braiden Weaver dropped a 5-2 decision to Moon senior Cael Yanek in the 133 final. Weaver was the returning champion.

Joining Ciampoli and Weaver were Dom Picciotti (107) and Deklan Barr (127). Both finished fourth.

The top five finishers in each weight class advanced to the state tournament. Altoona’s Mike Colyer (215) and Hollidaysburg’s Keegan Hewitt (189) and heavyweight Scott Payne placed sixth.
