Leah Byrne leads Bishop Guilfoyle softball team over Bishop Carroll

Leah Byrne earned the win by striking out nine and walking none and also belted a two-run homer to help Bishop Guilfoyle top Bishop Carroll, 7-3, in high school softball action on Wednesday at Garfield Park.

Emma Marasco contributed two hits, an RBI and four stolen bases, and Rowan Craig hit a two-run double. Addison Myers had three hits, including two doubles, for BC.

CLAYSBURG — Isabella Paris pitched six shutout innings, giving up three hits with nine strikeouts and only two walks in Claysburg-Kimmel’s 10-0 win over Central.

The Lady Bulldogs (3-0), up 4-0 after three innings, also got three hits and five RBIs from Paris. One was a home run and another was a triple. Teammate Savanna Crissman scored four runs, had two hits and drove in two runs.

Central (0-2) got two hits from Kailyn Gahagan.

Altoona defeated

Mechanicsburg scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning to break open a close game in defeating Altoona, 7-1, at Logan Elementary field.

Kaya Sprankle drove in Altoona’s run, and Charli Schneider went the distance on the mound, striking out seven.

Kayla Yohe threw a three-hitter with 15 strikeouts for Mechanicsburg (3-0).

HUNTINGDON — Rowyn Ruddek struck out seven and scattered four hits over seven innings to get the win for Central Cambria in a 2-1 win over Huntingdon.

The Lady Red Devils had eight hits from eight different players, including a solo home run from Kaydence Sinclair.

Emma Royer had two hits, and Railyn Fisher had a solo homer for Huntingdon.
