Portage’s upset bid falls short against Conemaugh Valley

JOHNSTOWN — A turnaround season for the Portage softball squad came to an end in Monday’s District 6 Class 1A quarterfinal contest at Conemaugh Valley. Despite a hot start by the ninth-seeded Mustangs that produced an early seven-run lead, the top-seeded Blue Jays thwarted the upset bid by erupting for 13 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to come away with an 18-9 victory. Hornets survive over Homer-Center

ALEXANDRIA — Juniata Valley built a six-run lead Monday against Homer-Center only to see it evaporate into a 9-9 tie before an error allowed the Lady Hornets to pull in front again, 10-9, in the bottom of the sixth. Valley eventually won by that same score when it got the tying run out at home for the final out in the District 6 Class 1A softball quarterfinals. East wins both PSFCA all-star football games

MECHANICSBURG — The East won both games Sunday in the PSFCA East-West All-Star Games at Cumberland Valley High School’s Chapman Field. Lancaster Catholic running back Brandon Way scored the go-ahead touchdown late in the game to give the East a 19-14 win in the Small School game. Penn Cambria’s Brady Jones threw a 26-yard touchdown pass for the West. The East won the Big School game, 14-10. Hollidaysburg’s Cole DeLattre completed 9-of-22 passes for 121 yards for the West, and the Tigers’ Josh Banks had three tackles.
