Portage stays put
The Portage Area School Board voted 4-3 to remain in its current co-operative agreement with the Penn Cambria School District for the district’s wrestling program.
An item was listed on this month’s agenda after a parent who declined to identify herself spoke during public comment at last month’s meeting in favor of the district reinstituting its own wrestling program.
The board initially moved to dissolve the agreement with Penn Cambria, but that motion did not have a majority of votes to move forward.
A second motion was then made by board member Susan Berardinelli and seconded by John Jubina to remain in the current agreement, which was passed with Berardinelli, Jubina and board members Lisa Dividock and Kathy Hough voting in favor.
Board members Jacob Myers, Brian Shope and Kelli Swires voted to oppose the district remaining with Penn Cambria. Board members Matthew Decort and Nancy Sherbine were not present at the meeting.
After the board’s vote to remain in the agreement, two attendees walked out of the meeting.
