Tyrone boys tennis team gets first victory

TYRONE — The Tyrone boys tennis team picked up its first win of the season, downing Tussey Mountain, 3-2, Thursday in high school action.

The Golden Eagles got singles wins from Wyatt walls and Caden Harris, while Tyke Beck won by forfeit at No. 3 singles.

The Golden Eagles are 1-1. Tussey is 0-1.

SINGLES: 1, Walls, T, def. Rickabaugh, 6-4, 6-1; 2, Harris, T, def. Horton, 6-7, 6-2, 10-8; 3, Beck, T, won by forfeit.

DOUBLES: 1, Shoop-Ritchey, T.M., def. Brodzina-Weimert, 6-0, 6-0; 2, Brode-Ayers, T.M., def. Fisher-Murphy, 6-1, 6-2.

Records: Tyrone (1-1), Tussey Mountain (0-1).

Mountain Lions fall

The Altoona boys volleyball team was able to claim the second set but dropped the others in a 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-15 and 25-19) loss to Central Dauphin at Altoona Area High School Fieldhouse.

Logan Coldwell totaled nine service points and nine digs for the Mountain Lions, Max Coon collected 15 assists and nine points, while Parker Huey-Kish came up with eight kills and Caleb Terza added eight digs.

Berlin wins hoop title

HERSHEY — The Berlin Brothersvalley girls basketball team won its second straight PIAA Class 2A championship, beating Neshannock, 55-39, in high school action at the Giant Center.

Four players finished in double figures for the Lady Mountaineers, led by Samantha Walker’s 16 points. Penny Stoltzfus contributed 12 points to go with 11 points each from Coral Prosser and Bryn Prosster. Coral added 12 rebounds for the winners (26-5).

Neshannonck (26-4) got 14 points and 14 rebounds from Peyton Newman.
