Marko sets Blair record

CLAYSBURG — Dave Marko became the all-time winningest coach in Blair County high school wrestling history after Central knocked off Claysburg-Kimmel, 33-26, on Tuesday. Marko won his 318th career victory to move one ahead of former Altoona coach Marty Rusnak. Marko had won 234 victories in 18 seasons at Claysburg-Kimmel and has now won 84 in eight seasons at Central. Wright’s ex-team prevails

TYRONE — It was kind of a new experience for both Tyrone wrestling coach Quentin Wright and Bald Eagle Area coach Ron Guenot on Tuesday night at the Tyrone gymnasium. McCort wrestlers’ injunction request rejected by PIAA

The Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association, in a court brief filed Thursday, opposes a preliminary injunction requested by the coach and parents of wrestlers on the Bishop McCort High School wrestling team who have been sanctioned by the PIAA for alleged violations of rules against the recruitment of athletes. The PIAA’s Board of Appeal, in a ruling last December, barred McCort’s wrestling coach, William Bassett, from coaching the team for two years and is prohibiting the team’s wrestlers from participating in postseason tournaments for two years.
