Dragons can’t slow the Bison

By Chris Wechtenhiser For the Mirror CLEARFIELD — Central made the trip Friday to take on the Clearfield Bison on their senior night, and despite a strong first-half defensive performance, the Scarlet Dragons still suffered a 35-14 loss at the hands of the Bison. The Dragons held the undefeated Bison to just 14 first-half points, but unfortunately for Central, it mustered just 1 yard of offense itself in the opening two quarters and trailed 14-0 at the break. Central’s offense, led by quarterback Eli Muthler, came alive in the third quarter and put together a pair of ...

Golden Eagles light up scoreboard in rout of Rams

By Kerry Naylor For the Mirror SPRING MILLS — It’s not often the post-game handshake comes with an apology, but that was the case last night in Spring Mills when Tyrone coach John Franco and Penns Valley coach Martin Tobias met at midfield minutes after the Golden Eagles had defeated Valley in a Laurel Highlands East contest. Up to that point, the Glendale offense had gained just 60 yards. The Vikings offense came to life at the right time, however, putting together a 10-play, 60-yard drive all on the ground to reclaim the lead. Jimmy Sutton capped the pivotal drive with a ...

JV gets in gear after halftime

THREE SPRINGS — Juniata Valley had a two-score lead on Southern Huntingdon at the half, but the Green Hornet coaching staff wasn’t thrilled with the lackluster play of the offensive line through the first two quarters. JV’s line got the halftime message, came out in the second half and asserted itself — opening up holes for the running game to be all but one pass play after the break. The Green Hornets established themselves on the ground, got some timely plays on defense and special teams en route to getting a running clock going late in the contest of a 44-22 victory over ...
