Nine area coaches received a vote from either their peers or local media in this season’s voting for Altoona Mirror Coach of the Year. Remarkably, any of those coaches legitimately could have been selected as the winner and it would have been tough to argue that it was unfounded. Penn Cambria’s Nick Felus won by 21 votes over Hollidaysburg’s Homer DeLattre and 25 over Bishop Guilfoyle Academy’s Justin Wheeler. From Mirror reports Bellwood-Antis placed two players on the PA Football News Coaches-Select all-state football team in Class 2A. Making the first team were Blue Devils Colin Gibbons (slot/H-back) and Cayden Pellegrine (outside linebacker), along with Central Cambria’s Grady Snyder (defensive athlete), Bedford’s Quincy Swaim (offensive athlete) and Bald Eagle Area’s Carson Nagle (quarterback). Tigers head coach, nine Marauders are among PFN honorees

From Mirror reports Hollidaysburg Area High School football coach Homer DeLattre and nine members of the state champion Bishop Guilfoyle Academy football team were among those honored on the PA Football News Coaches-Select All-State teams that were released on Thursday. DeLattre, who led the Golden Tigers to an undefeated regular season, was voted as the Class 5A coach of the year. Voting was done by coaches statewide. Heights’ Jasper named all-state in football

From Mirror reports Cambria Heights senior defensive lineman Garrett Jasper was selected to the Pa. Football Writers All-State team in Class 2A on Saturday. Jasper helped the Highlanders win the District 6 Class 2A championship, their second district title in as many years. Bedford’s Quincy Swaim also made the team as an athlete and helped the Bisons win District 5 before they lost to eventual PIAA champion Troy in the state playoffs.
